Janmashtami Celebrated in Houston

Thousands of Hindus marked Sri Krishna Janmashtami in a citywide celebration here amidst religious services and art and cultural programmes.

The festival, organised at the George Brown Convention Center yesterday, saw the venue wear a festive look, with lights, floral garlands, balloons, chariots, sumptuous Indian food and devotees wearing colourful traditional outfits.

According to the organisers, "Sixteen years ago, Houston was the first city in the USA to celebrate community-wide event. The objective was to celebrate these festivals collectively, with representation from temples, institutions and organisations that help the Indian community".
